Abstract
This paper discusses the problems of improving densely populated areas, emphasizing the following five points: (1) Description of the actual situation of disorganized single-family dwellings in the model area of Tokyo's Sumida Ward. (2) Description of the actual housing situation according to a joint housing method employed in densely populated areas in Tokyo's 23 wards. (3) Review and assessment of proposals for cooperative housing. (4) Assessment of the possibilities of implementing cooperative housing through research in the model area. (5) Elucidation of possible future difficulties related to this issue.
