Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to study the adaptability of the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) as a value evaluation method for the main street project in a historical urban area. This is done through a case study of a planned trunk road in Kanazawa City by using a contingent scenario preserving the historical townscape. As the result of study, it can be said that the comparatively reliable result was obtained, a value of a project preserving historical townscape could be estimated, and a possibility to use CVM for evaluation of street project in historical townscape could be shown because there are much consistency between the supposed characteristics and the evaluation results.
