Abstract
Since the number of bus-users has been declining each year, business conditions of route bus services are very serious. Furthermore, Supply-Demand Adjustment Restriction was abolished in 2004 so service levels might be lowered by withdrawal of unprofitable bus routes. In order to maintain publicness of bus service, we need to consider not only the evaluation of the economic viability but comprehensive characteristics of bus routes. In this study, we develop methods for comprehensive evaluation of efficiency using Data Envelopment Analysis and evaluate efficiency of bus routes in the city. Moreover, we show concrete ideas for the betterment of inefficient bus routes.
