Abstract
This paper aims to clarify the influence of tourism since 1910's on the Hangzhou West Lake's scenic and historicalarea, which is representative cultural landscape in China. After the modern tourism industry has been introduced inthis area since 1910's, the cultural landscape has been strongly influenced by it in the following 100 years. In thisresearch, the following 4 points has been clarified. Firstly, the tourism industry influenced the cultural landscape ofWest Lake by maintenance and construction work on tourism sites and service facilities. Secondly, the influenceprocess could be divided to 6 periods. Thirdly, the influence spread from lake area to hill area gradually by time, andthe cultural landscape shows characteristics from western style, modern style, and finally to the traditional Chinesestyle. Fourthly, the tourism contributed to the reconstruction of cultural landscape of West Lake from war time andpolitical movement, while also brought harm to it at some places.
