Abstract
The torrential rain in Hiroshima city on August 20, 2014 caused serious damage to suburban residential districts developed at the foot of the mountain. 74 people were killed, 69 people were injured and 179 buildings were completely destroyed due to the debris flow and landslides. As for research in the disaster area, the interview and questionnaire survey by individual investigation team are said to have caused a lot of stress for some victims. Therefore the purpose of this paper is to clarify the outline of victim’s evacuation behavior using the articles of four newspapers, Chugoku Shimbun as a local newspaper and Asahi, Mainichi and Yomiuri Shimbun as a national newspaper. This paper shows the elements of risk perception and evacuation behavior based on the data of 71 victims.
