Abstract

This study clarifies the relationship between the space transformation after the relocation project of the past tsunami disaster (1896, 1933) and reconstruction plan after the Great East Japan Earthquake, especially focusing on the relationship with the reconstruction project and the site land use plan in the disaster hazard area. Consequently, the followings are concluded mainly: 1) in the three villages of Kamaishi City, because the relocation projects were conducted near the damaged residential area the villages are keeping compact. 2) in the two villages of Kesennuma City, the relocation sites were conducted far away from the damaged residential area to prioritize prevention of future tsunami damage. 3) the reconstructed land use plan is due to the previous process of how the land was used in the relevant area.
