Abstract

To increase the number of migrants, Tottori City has established a consultation support office. Characteristics such as household’s members, present address, and reasons for migration of people who come the consultation support office are recorded in a list of those considering immigration. In addition, the Tottori government conducted a follow-up survey for the households that moved to the city. The questions in the survey included when and where they moved, why they chose Tottori, and so on. This study investigates the factors that have influenced residential location choice, using the two data sets. To analyze the mechanisms of residential location choice, this study applied the desecrate choice model and decision tree analysis. Based on the results of these analyses, this study outlined the series of decision-making processes from the initial stage (migration consideration) to the final stage of immigration.
