Abstract

This study, through the case study of Nishiki 2 Chojamachi community development project, investigates the process to regenerate the existing urban area through small projects such as renovation and conversion of buildings and utilization of open space created by local institutional environment which is composed of vision, plan, restriction, incentive and project, and presents achievements and issues when social enterprises enter the urban regeneration field as business. As an actor to promote collaboration between local governments and communities, social enterprises can contribute to area branding through various small projects. This research points out that it is possible to implement a comprehensive urban regeneration in harmony with a large-scale redevelopment project through small projects created by local institutional environment.
