This study revealed factors that contribute to residents’ intention to settle in a concerned neighborhood through a survey in Yokohama City’s suburban Shonan Katsuradai area. The factors were identified from two perspectives; evaluative and emotional. While residents expressed high satisfaction with open spaces like nature and parks, convenience of living was rated low. Intention to settle correlated strongly with emotional attachment to the community. Furthermore, those attached to parks, roads, and commercial areas showed higher attachment to the neighborhood. These spaces serve as the venue for community events and daily activities. Therefore, it is suggested that layering both daily and occasional activities on the planned spatial layout will contribute to a fulfilling living environment at a neighborhood unit.
