Abstract
In this Paper, the process of forming the landscape neighbourhoods around Nanzenji-Fukuchi-Cho and Jodoji-Shishigatani-Nayakuoji as the walkable environment developed in Modern period. In Both examples, the narrow footpath has been not mealy external element but became to play important role as spine of landscape neighbourhood. They were designed with spatial intention in which the function for walking around was deliberately involved. When the new and quality landscape neighbourhood is designed, in addition to take sufficient interpretation of indigenous and traditional characteristics of environment, planner should plan to create the footpath mildly managing land properties along it.
