Abstract

This study is to evaluate the influence of university athletes’ thinking style on an impression formation of Non-Verbal Communication(NVC).

The subjects were 456 students who are majoring in university athletes(277 males, 179 females: average 20.0±1.2 years old).As measurement methods, thinking style scale(self-attention, self-esteem, distraction of attention, control feeling)and NVC self-evaluation scale(positive or negative)are applied. In order to evaluate the influence factors to NVC impression formation by the thinking style, the analysis was conducted by multiple regression analysis: scale factors for thinking style scale as independent variable, and for NVC impression formation as dependent variable.

As the result, self-attention in thinking style affects positive NVC impression formation, and control feeling and distraction of attention affects negative NVC impression formation in male athletes. On the other hand, female athletes were not influenced by any thinking style.

As a future study, the different influential concept needs to be considered for female athletes.
