Abstract
The space, occupied by the injected gas in a water reservoir used for gas storage, being relatively smaller in size as compared to the size of the water aquifer, the movement of gas water contact is greatly affected by the amount of gas injected into or produced from the reservoir. Certain conventional approaches to the above problem have been reported in the literature but those methods seem to be insufficient.
In this paper, the Cauchy problem of a partial differential equation has been solved numerically, because analytical solution is extremely difficult with the boundary conditions involved. It has found expedient to use the geometrical progression coordinate and to apply both the relaxation and the successive approximation methods.
From the results obtained, it may be concluded that the approach in this paper has been better than other conventional methods especially when the movement of gas water contact is large.
