Abstract
The pour point depressant (W-O) which was synthesized by Friedel-Crafts reaction of naphthalene and chlorinated paraffin using AlCl3, as catalyst according to Davis' method showed no pour point depression performance.
Then, W-O was separated by rubber membrane dialysis and liquid adsorption chromatography and analyzed the chemical structure of main component of W-O i.e. the aromatic fractions by the measurement of physico-chemical properties, n-d-M ring analysis, IR, MS, NMR and GPC.
It was believed that a mean structure of the W-O aromatic fractions was as following.
We could not obtain compounds of higher molecular weight than those referred to above which were obtained by Davis' method, and it was easily predicted that such low molecular weight alkylnaphthalene had no pour point depression performance, which was experimentally proved, also.
