Abstract
Correlations among the structural parameters of pitches, obtained from the high temperature cracking of Khafji crude, was discussed. The pitches have been characterized by the application of densimetric, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance analysis. For the system of aromatic condensed ring to which alkyl and/or naphthenic substituents, are attached, the structural parameters of aromaticity, ring condensation index, and ratio of peripheral aromatic carbon to total aromatic carbon estimated by the different methods show fairly good consistency with each other.
