Abstract
In order to study the reaction rate of ethylene glycol terephthalate polycondensation process, the main reaction which leads to the formation of polyethylene terephthalate is investigated in this paper.
Using an open system experimental apparatus, polycondensation experiments were carried out under reduced pressure with continuous stirring at 40rpm at 275°C, 280°C and 285°C. A catalyst and a stabilizer were made to combine seventeen kinds in different concentration. The polycondensation reaction rate was then calculated and the frequency factor, which can be expressed as a function of the catalyst and the stabilizer and the activation energy were investigated.
The results proved to be of great use in the design of a polycondensation reactor system.
