Abstract

This paper introduces the current status of preprints in biology, medicine and pharmacology. The main topics are the following: the historical background of relationships among preprint and life science, the current status of preprint servers in life science, and the situation of acceptance of preprints among life scientists. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of preprints are summarized, and whether the role of academic journals could be changed by preprints is discussed in this paper, with particular attention to the fields of biology, medicine and pharmacology.
