Abstract

The rapid progress in medical technology and development and application of new pharmaceuticals in recent years calls for the education and training of reliable and qualified pharmacists and pharmaceutical researchers. In August 2002, the “Model Core Curriculum for Pharmaceutical Education and Practical On-site Training and Graduation Training Curriculum, ” sponsored by the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan was drafted. This model curriculum is prompting action towards fostering and promoting a new educational environment in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. This article describes several problems to be resolved, including teaching methods for achieving educational goals, means of assessing achievement, and so on. These efforts may be helpful to devise a new educational system for pharmaceutical sciences.
