Abstract

Four Carices are treated in this paper, remarkable characters are as below:
Carex omiana FRANCH. et SAV.: Hinge cells resemble the upper epidermal cells on the mesophyll. Upper epidermal cells on the nerve are indistinct in spite of the conspicuousness of those in the under epidermis.
Carex planata FR. et SAV.: Cells on the nerve in the upper epidermis are indistinct. Vascular bundles are small. Spine cells and protuberances are found only in the margins.
Carex pseudo-loliacea FR. SCHMIDT: All epidermal cells have spherical protuberances. Hinge cells are low. Spine cells are small and found only in the margins. Transfusion cells are rather numerous.
Carex remotiuscla WAHLENBERG: Upper epidermal cells are large. Protuberances occur in the upper epidermis and the margins. Spine cells are distributed in the under epidermis on the midrib and in the margins. Vascular bundles are poorly developed.
