Abstract
Our study was Performed in order to establish the assay method of amino-terminal PTH 1-34 (N-PTH 1-34) and furthermore, changes of serum N-PTH 1-34 as well as serum carboxy-terminal PTH 1-84 (C-PTH 1-84) in patients with renal failure after hemodialysis employing cuprophan membrane were investigated. Both C-PTH 1-84 and N-PTH 1-34 concentrations in sera of patients with renal failure were shown to be higher compared with normal subjects. Our study suggeets that N-PTH 1-34 was easily filtered through membrane in to hemodialysatesa. Elevation of serum calcium after hemodialysis did not seem to exercise an inhibitory influence on parathyroid hormone secretion. Rises in serum N-PTH 1-34 were observed in parallel with serum alkeline phosphatase and good significant relationship between serum C-PTH 1-84 and serum phosphate was present in renal failure. Our results suggests that lower molecular and biologically active N-PTH 1-34 was filtered, but larger molecular and non-bioactive C-PTH 1-84 was not filtered through cuprophane membrane and measurement of serum N-PTH 1-34 provides an important parameter of bone metabolism.
