Abstract
(1) The growth of gonococci was completely inhibited when the dose neutral red was not less than 0.1%. The germicidal strength of neutral red is less by one-tenth than tnat of protargol.
(2) No sufficient penetration was noticed throught the deeper layer of the urethra of male guinea-pig, but on the urethral mucosa the stain was recognized. Sections preparde by hematoxylineosin did not show any infiltration.
(3) Guinea-pigs still lived after 1.5% hundred gram intravenous injection witn 1:100 neutral red dilution.
(4) Applying the dye for gonorrhoea in 59 cases, with the exception of two, urine became quite clear after a longer or shorter period.
(5) According to my experience neutral red dilution from 0.25% to 0.5% was most satifactory.
(6) The dye caused hardly any irritation.
(7) Examination by Goldschmidt's urethroscope after urethral injection of this dye, revealed that, as a whole, the anterior urethra was stained better than the posterior urethra, but after half an hour, both were almost free from the dye. Mucous threada and gonorrhoeal threads lying sporadically on the urethral surface were stained deep red brown and did not lose the colour.
(The general outline of this study was once made public in the Dermato-urological Society.)
I desire to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. S. Akutsu for suggestion given to me in course of my experiments.
