Abstract

I have carried out the pure culture of the tubercle bacillus iu the urines of twenty-seven cases of the renal tuberculosis after the method of Hohn.
The result is as followings: the positive twentyfour, and the negative three. In this latter cases, the kidneys taken out after the operation were showing all the signs of the last term of the tuberculosis, with the entirely closed ureter, and the kidneys themselves were changed into the purulent bags, filled with the dense suppurative matters, and it was found also that the contents could not force themselves out into the bladders, so that, if these three cases were excluded, the ratio of positive will be so high as to reach 100 per cent. The time wanted to the development of the colony was thirteen days, the shortest; thirty-two days, the longest; the average being twenty-three days.
I have also tried at the same time the Petroff's method, but it was almost of no avail, owing to the growth of so many a kind of germs on the culture media.
