II. Effect of female sex hormones on the structure of the kidney in intact rats.
Two estrogens, natural and synthetic estrogen, and corpus-luteum extract were used in my experiments.
(1) Experiments indicate that estrogens given during a period of 2 weeks cause decrease of kidney weight. Histologically such kidneys are chracterized by slight degenerative change in the epithelium of tubules and glomerulus. Such effect are more remarkable in the natural estrogen than the synthetic estrogen.
(2) Corpus-luteum extract causes enlargemenet of the kidney, increase in the weight of the kidney and, in this respect, acts synergistically with simultaneously given androgen but antagonizes estrogen.
