Abstract

I have done the bacteriological studies about the intestinal contents in the clinical cases of various types of uretero-enterostomy and also some experiments. The results were as follows:
1) First of all, I cultivated the urine of various types of the artificial bladders: 4 cases of ureterosigmoidostomy, 5 cases of ileumbladder, 4 cases of sigmoidbladder, 1 case of caecumbladder and 4 cases of ureteroentero-vesico-neostomy. The kinds and the number of cultivated bacteria in the ureterosigmoidostomy were extremely numerous as compared with the other types. But there was no great difference between the other 4 types of artificial bladder.
2) At the uretero-enterostomy in 7 cases I have calculated the number of bacteria in the contents of large and small intestines. The number of bacteria in the former was greater than that in the latter.
3) In the uretero-entero-vesico-neostomy the number of bacteria was influenced by the application of the splintcatherte. The number of bacteria in the cases with splintcather was fewer than that in the case without it. This results shows the safety of application of splintcatheter in the plastic operation of ureter.
4) The number of bacteria in the cloaca of hens was smaller than that in the contents of sigmoidcolon after ureterosigmoidostomy and its kinds in the cloaca were also very different from those of human cases.
Namely, the cloaca has the natural protection against the abnormal bacterial infection and we are not able to create such defending condition in clinical ureterosigmoidostomy.
5) The number of bacteria in the mixture of urine and adult feces and also of urine alone, left in the 37°C incubator, increased rapidly during 3 hours. The grade of its increasing was greater in the former than in the latter. This fact shows that the common ureterosigmoidostomy is very dangerous.
6) The amount of ammonia in the mixture of urine and feces and also of the urine alone, kept in the 37°C incubator, increased rapidly during 3 hours, And the velocity of its increasing was rapider in the mixture than in the urine alone. Namely, the common ureterosigmoidostomy is very dangerous in regard to the hyperchloremic acidosis.
