PSYCHOGENIC RETENTION OF URINE: CASE REPORT

Abstract

A case of psychogenic urinary retention which resulted from a motor-car accident in a young man, aged 24, is described.
His urinary retention, which had persisted for seven months in spite of the various routine urological treatments, was relieved promptly after “support” psychotherapy and prolonged narcosis therapy in our psychiatric department.
Some considerations are offered on psychogenic functional bladder disorders.
