In recent years, there has been a lifestyle focus on UV, violet, blue and yellow light as ‘stressful’ or ‘necessary’ light for the eye. The wavelength ranges of UV, violet and blue light overlap, and it is important to consider the spectral balance of spectacle lenses to optimize these light exposures in the digital age and aging society. However, due to this wavelength overlap, it is difficult to distinguish between moderate and excessive exposure, particularly because the optimal level of light exposure varies from person to person. Basic, clinical and epidemiological research studies are needed to continue to develop lenses and educate users to protect their eyes from light.
