Abstract

Keratoconus (KC) is a progressive disease that leads to a decrease in visual acuity and quality of vision and significantly affects quality of life. The use of Contact lens (CL) has a good medical indication and is the main option for correcting the irregular astigmatism caused by the disease. The corneal shape changes and increased higher-order aberrations that occur as KC progresses require special CL designs and advanced fitting techniques. Recent advances in CL materials, design and manufacturing technologies have led to the development and availability of a wide variety of CLs for the treatment of KC. This review outlines a wide range of specialized CLs, including rigid and soft CLs, hybrid and scleral CLs, and custom lens CLs, with recent reports.
