Universal Signatures in the Mode Fluctuation Distribution of Chaotic Systems

Abstract

An example other than the hyperbolic billiard, the mode fluctuation of which shows Gaussian distribution, is presented. It is the Bunimovich's stadium billiard where the mode fluctuation is obtained by eliminating the semiclassical contribution of the bouncing ball modes from the spectral staircase function. The mode fluctuation without this elimination shows the skewness which considerably agrees with semiclassically evaluated predictions.
