Microwave Spectrum of Methyl Mercaptan

Abstract

Two new series of ΔJ=0 transitions in the first excited torsional state as well as one series of the S³⁴ isotopic molecule were found in the range up to 37 Gc/sec besides those reported in the previous paper. The two series in the first excited torsional state are discussed, confirming the potential barrier height V₃=443.9±1.0 cm⁻¹ which were determined from ΔJ=±1, ΔK=\mp1 lines in the ground torsional state. Moreover, the hindering potential is considered to be sinusoidal with an accuracy of better than one percent from those analyses.
