Abstract
The total absorption cross sections of photons in copper, silver, tin, tantalum, tungsten and lead have been studied for photon energies at 450, 700 and 1000 MeV. A comparison is made between experimental and theoretical cross sections. The Hartree-Fock-Slater cross section agrees with experimental results with an accuracy of the order of 1%.
