The Paramagnetic Curie Temperature of the Alloys Gd(Al_1−xCu_x)₂ and Gd(Al_1−xNi_x)₂

Abstract

The paramagnetic Curie temperature θ_p is measured for the alloys Gd(Al_1−xCu_x)₂ and Gd(Al_1−xNi_x)₂. The values of θ_p plotted versus the number of conduction electrons n₀ are found on a single curve. The decrease of θ_p with decreasing n₀ is in contradiction with the prediction made by Buschow et al. on the basis of the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida theory. A reinterpretation of the result based on the same theory is given.
