The occupation probability of Fe or Cr atoms on the four crystallographically different sites of α-Mn has been measured by means of neutron diffraction. The experimental results are explained by considering the attractive interaction between the host and impurity atoms in addition to the space-filling concept. The magnetic structures of the alloys are also determined and are discussed based on the relation to the variation of the Néel temperatures with the alloy composition, estimated from the temperature variation of the specific heat and the electrical resistivity.
