Exchange Currents in the Neutrino-Deuteron Reactions and the Solar Neutrino Problem

Abstract

In view of current interest in the use of the reactions ν_e+d→e⁻+p+p and \barν_e+d→e⁺+n+n for studying the solar neutrinos, it is desirable to obtain reliable estimates of the cross sections of these reactions. In order to evaluate the reliability of the existing estimates based on the impulse approximation, we have examined possible effects of exchange currents and found that the modification of the impulse approximation results due to the exchange currents is not larger than ∼6%.
