Magnetic Structure of Intermetallic Compound κ-Mn₅Ge₂

Abstract

The magnetic structure of an N-type ferrimagnet κ-Mn₅Ge₂ has been determined by Rietveld analysis of its powder neutron diffraction data. The magnetic moments on three Mn sites (4b, 8f, 8j) has been found to be collinear along an orthorhombic b axis, with the respective values μ(4b)=2.54±0.11 μ_B, μ(8f)=2.26±0.06 μ_B. and μ(8j)=−3.11±0.08 μ_B, at 13 K.
