EXAFS Study on Premartensitic Phase in Nb₃Sn

Abstract

Extended X-ray absorption fine structure measurements have been carried out near the K-edge of Nb₃Sn in order to investigate the local structure of the martensitic and the premartensitic phases. The splitting of the first shell corresponding to the first neighbour Nb–Nb atoms into three shells has been observed in the premartensitic phase. This implies that the local distortion with the low temperature martensitic structure takes place in the cubic phase.
