On Certain Homoclinic Soliton in Elastic Stability

Abstract

The possibility and consequences of two types of soliton in elastic stability namely loop and envelope soliton are discussed at some length. The main point here is that due to the homoclinic nature of these solitons, extreme sensitivity to initial conditions and asymptotic spacial chaos, as distinct from temporal chaos, may be anticipated. This in turn is related to some experimental observations in dynamical and quasi statical elastic systems.
