Abstract
The elastic properties of the samarium intermetallic compounds, SmX3 (X=Pd, In, Sn, Tl, Pb), with the AuCu3-type structure have been investigated by means of the ultrasonic measurements. The characteristic softenings in the elastic constants reflecting the Γ8 ground state have been found and analyzed in terms of the strain susceptibility. The rotational invariance effect of the C44 mode in SmPd3 is also presented.
