Abstract

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has been attracting attention as a technology that discovers knowledge and creates new value from big data that is increasing in all fields. In the fields of drug discovery and life sciences as well, various AI researches using a wide variety of and enormous amounts of big data are being developed, and it is expected that the AIs will dramatically improve the efficiency of drug development.

We have been also developing artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies for drug discovery, for example AIs for target biomolecules identification and for drug screening and optimization. Furthermore, in November 2016, we established the Life Intelligence Consortium (LINC), which aims to develop pharmaceutical AIs in collaboration with academia and pharmaceutical and IT companies. LINC has developed about 30 types of AI technologies from upstream to downstream of drug development.

In my talk, I would like to introduce our research of AIs for drug development and discuss the impact of AI on the pharmaceutical industry.
