Abstract

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has announced that the Model Core Curriculum for Pharmaceutical Education will be revised in 2022.In the "Model Core Curriculum for Pharmaceutical Education: Revised Version as of May 30, 2022," the goal of "medical pharmacy" is to acquire the knowledge necessary to practice responsible drug treatment for each patient, which is the goal of clinical pharmacy. In particular, the systematic understanding of the pathophysiology of diseases and the mechanisms of drug action in relation to the pathophysiology of diseases is the most important part of the basic policy of the revised core curriculum. However, the number of faculty members who can teach pathophysiology is limited, making it difficult to teach in all diseases. In recent years, the scope of pharmacist services has been rapidly expanding, and there is an urgent need to develop clinical pharmacists with clinical responsiveness.

In this symposium, I will introduce the efforts of the Showa University School of Pharmacy to resolve issues in the education of pharmacology, pathophysiology, and pharmacotherapeutics in the School of Pharmacy. I am also in charge of pharmacology education in the School of Medicine and would like to discuss the differences in pharmacology education between faculties.
