Abstract

The purpose of this study was to confirm the effect of natural minerals onhyperglycemia and glucose intolerance in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabeticmice. The STZ with natural mineral group exhibited lowered fasting plasmaglucose levels than the STZ-induced diabetic group. Oral glucose tolerance testsshowed that natural minerals improves impaired glucose tolerance in STZ-induceddiabetic mice. Histopathological evaluation of the pancreas showed that naturalminerals restores the morphology of the pancreatic islets of Langerhans andincreases the secretion of insulin in STZ-induced diabetic mice. These resultssuggest that natural minerals is a potential anti-diabetic agent, owing to itsability to suppress hyperglycemia and improve glucose intolerance by modulatingglucose metabolism and increasing glucose uptake. .(“This research was a part ofthe project titled 'Global multi-combination product development and exportutilizing deep seawater extracted minerals (FDA notification) funded by theMinistry of Oceans and Fisheries, South Korea.")
