Abstract

Oxygen transfer in some aeration processes was studied by using the simulation method of oxygen transfer between gas, liquid and activated sludge to develope a high-performance activated sludge treatment equipment.
Oxygen transfer was simulated by simultaneously solving the equations of the bubble motion, volume of a bubble and transfer of oxygen and carbon dioxide during a bubble rising in liquid.
At first, the accuracy of simulation was confirmedby comparing the simulated values with experimental values in oxygen utilization and dissolved oxygen concentration. Next, the effect of carbon dioxide caused by BOD oxidation reaction on the oxygen transfer phenomena was found to be neglected. Therefore, the operating condition to make the dissolved oxygen concentration maximum was obtained.
