Investigation of Acidification of Dam Lakes in Nara Prefecture

Abstract

Acidification of four dam lakes within the Nara prefecture, the Tsuburo Dam, the Ohsako Dam, the Ikehara Dam and the Sakamoto Dam, was monitored and studied over a period of five years from the fiscal years 1996 to the 2000. Consequently, the acidification of the dam lakes was not found. However, judging from the degree of alkalinity showing buffer ability and electric conductivity of each dam, the Ikehara Dam and the Sakamoto Dam are considered more likely to be influenced by acidification.
