Abstract
Behavierour of NO in NO-N2 mixture under a UV irradiation was a studied with a flow type pho-toreactor at room temperature. NO did not change in NO-N2 mixture under a high pressure mercury lamp irradiation but decomposed to N2 and O2 under a low or super low pressure mercury lamp irradiation and 10% of NO was oxidized to NO2 by O2 formed.
On the other hand, NO2 decomposed to NO and O2 in NO2-N2 mixture and NO formed was partially decomposed to N2 and O2 under a low pressure mercury lamp irradiation. The oxidation rate of NO to NO2 was accelerated by the presence of small amount of O2, while the decomposition rate of NO was not. And the reaction was retarded by the presence of NO2. The rate under a low pressure mercury lamp irradiation was remarkably decreased during the course of reacti on. The rate was expressed by the following equation:
-d[NO]/dt=ko[NO]1/2/1+k'[NO2]/[NO]
