Abstract

The radiolysis products resulting from the cleavage of the N-glycosidic linkage after gamma irradiation of cytosine ¹⁴C-2 labelled DNA of Escherichia coli were mainly cytosine and trans 5, 6-dihydroxy-5, 6 dihydro uracil. Relative percentages of these products were determined against doses and mechanism of release suggested.
