Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate possible linear energy transfer (LET) dependence for a polymer gel dosimeter using proton beam absorbed dose measurements. Polymer gel containing the antioxidant tetrakis-hydroxymethyl-phosphonium chloride was irradiated with 210 MeV protons, and the gel absorbed dose response was evaluated using MRI. The LET distribution for proton beams was calculated as a function of depth using the Monte Carlo code PHITS.
PHITS simulations of a proton beam-line under a range of beam conditions have been compared with MR analysis of irradiated polymer gel. The result calculated by using a part of LET corresponded with the gel's one.
