Abstract

To drive linear switched reluctance motors with high thrust and high efficiency, it is necessary to switch the phase to be excited appropriately according to the mover position, and a position sensor is usually used. However, the position sensor has problems such as increased cost, increased volume, and decreased reliability. In this study, we aim to drive by the position sensorless control method that estimates the mover position from current and voltage for driving using the mathematical model of the magnetization curve. First, we derived the equation for calculating mover position using the mathematical model of the magnetization curve. Next, we measured the magnetization curves of the experimental machine and examined the position estimation error caused by the mathematical modeling. Finally, it was confirmed that the experimental machine could be driven well under position sensorless control up to the rated velocity.
