Abstract
Multi-hole spray interference and mixture formation play an important role in ignition and combustion process in diesel combustion. The experiment uses a rapid compression machine with applied a reflex schlieren photography method to investigate fuel-air mixing process during ignition delay period. Hole-diameter, hole-number and swirl velocity are changed as experimental parameters. Schlieren images reveal spray interaction and evaporation process clearly. The schlieren images are analyzed by comparing with flame images and combustion pressure diagrams. Results show the effects of mixture formation process during ignition delay period on ignition and combustion of diesel sprays.
