Abstract
In this study, differences of the fatigue characteristic of a bolted joint without a nut and the fatigue characteristic of a bolt/nut joint under transverse vibration have been investigated. Experiments were performed for those joints with same grip lengths to see the influence of the grip length on their fatigue characteristics. The results showed that the apparent fatigue limit of the bolted joint was smaller than that of the bolt/nut joint. The results also showed that the grip length has a direct influence on the lowest threshold for amplitude of transverse vibration force of both the bolted joint and the bolt/nut joint.
