Abstract
A mono-tube type shock absorber incorporating the magneto rheological fluid (MR fluid) was designed to control the damping force electronically. The FEM magnetic field analysis was performed focally at the main part of the piston, where the magnetic field was controlled by an embedded coil. It is known that a saturated magnetic flux could be seen and also that the magnetic intensity at the orifice became maximum at a certain number of coil turn. The initial damping force and the coefficient of the yield stress of the MR fluid showed good linearity in accordance with the piston speed.
