Abstract
Surface finish rolling experiments were carried out using rollers and spur gears of 1.5Cr-0.2Mo alloyed sintered steel having a density of 7.55g/cm3. A high precision CNC form rolling machine of 2 roller dies transverse type was employed. The rolling process was designed to get good surface layer densification and enough accuracy on the gear tooth profile. Single tooth bending fatigue test and rolling contact fatigue test were conducted. The experimental results show that the transverse form rolling for high density sintered steel material can be used to produce high precision sput gears with strength comparable to wrought steel gears.
