Abstract
Exhaust noise level measured by current ISO5130 correlates weakly with accelerating vehicle noise by ISO362, because ISO5130 measures noise in engine coasting condition. In this study, a new alternative stationary exhaust noise test was proposed. In this test, exhaust noise is measured when the throttle is opened quickly and fully from the idle position. The exhaust noise levels were measured in the proximity of the exit of mufflers under the conditions of the alternative test and the current ISO362 simulated on the chassis dynamo meter. Those results were compared and the validity of the alternative test was investigated.
